You peek carefully around the corner to the northeast, and see nothing but more cave. Going north, you see that the narrow passageway actually dead ends less than 10 feet from where it started to narrow. Turning back to the east, you follow the cave a short distance and see a flight of stairs going up to the north, in between worked stone walls. It appears that the hallway turns to the right (east) at the top of the stairs. To the south east, the cave narrows significantly, and also turns a corner so you can't see where it goes. Next Step: Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice.

You go up the stairs, only to find that they continue as another flight of stairs to the east. Going up the second flight, you find a closed door at the top. Wirlt listens at the door, but hears nothing unusual. You decide to open the door and step in. This is a 30 foot by 30 foot square room, with another door in the middle of the north wall. In the center of the room you see 3 human-like reptiles with short tails, long legs, and a "spiny" comb on their heads and arms. These are troglodytes, they seem angry, and they attack on sight. Next Step: Roll .combat dice and your .{weapon} dice and describe your attacks for two rounds.

Round 1:
  • The Troglodyte in front of Leng attacks first, clawing and biting at him. It misses with one claw, but gets a critical hit with the other claw and a bite! It does double damage with its claw (rolled a nat 20), doing 8 hp 💥 damage to Leng! Leng stumbles, falling over slightly, giving the troglodyte an opening, it bites him on the back of the neck (rolled another nat 20) for an additional 10 hp 💥 damage, knocking him down and unconscious (Leng now has -9 🤯 hp!)
  • Chase swings at the troglodyte in front of him, but misses miserably (rolled a nat 1) for a fumble. His attack misses wildly and the force sends him to the ground, where he struggles to get back to his feet. 💥
  • Hagar steps over Chase and attacks the troglodyte in front of him with a sword swing in a "belt-like" shape, but is not able hurt his foe.
  • Krislee solidly hits the troglodyte in front of her for 7 points ✨ of damage! The troglodyte is bleeding a lot, but is still standing.
  • The troglodyte in front of Krislee swipes at her with one claw, but fumbles (rolled a nat 1) so badly that it ends up clawing the troglodyte in front of Hagar for 1 hp ✨ damage! Krislee is not so lucky with the troglodyte’s second claw attack, it hits her for 2 points 💥 of damage! It is not able to bite her.
  • The troglodyte that was in front of Chase is so surprised by Chase falling to the ground and the sudden appearance of Hagar that it misses with both of its claws and its bite.
  • Weert throws his dagger at the troglodyte in front of Hagar, but misses. The dagger flies by and falls to the ground in the center of the room.
  • Wirlt is still stuck behind Krislee and Hagar, so can’t attack with her sword this round. She does squeeze by Krislee and ends up just north of the door, where she can attack next round.

Round 2:
  • There is a smell emanating from the troglodytes as they attack, you all are starting to feel sick from the stench. 🦨
  • (I’m taking a little license here @spencer) Weert, having no other weapons, and seeing that Leng is down and hurt badly, decides to cast his Magic Missile spell at the troglodyte that knocked Leng out. A glowing arrow appears hovering next to Weert. Weert points at the troglodyte, and the arrow flies through the air and disappears into its chest, causing 3 hp ✨ damage!
  • Chase, still shaking off his bad swing from last round, is able to get up and move to stand over Leng to protect him from further harm. Chase is not able to attack this round though.
  • The troglodyte in front of Hagar claws at him, but fumbles (rolled a nat 1), and its claw ricochets off Hagar’s shield and severs an artery in its own leg. The troglodyte falls to the ground, is not able to attack anymore, and is bleeding badly! ✨
  • Wirlt swings at the troglodyte in front of Krislee, but is not able to hit or do any damage.
  • The troglodyte in front of Krislee claws at her, but is not able to get through her defenses with either both claw. However, it is able to bite her for 3 hp 💥 damage.
  • Krislee attacks but also fumbles (rolled a nat 1). Like Chase last round, she misses wildly and the force sends her to the ground, where she struggles to get back to her feet. 💥.
  • The troglodyte attacking Chase is not able to hurt him.
  • Because the troglodyte in front of Hagar has fallen to the ground with it’s self-inflicted leg injury, Hagar is able to hit it for 9 hp of damage, killing it! 🎈 Next Step:
Describe your combat actions for the next 2 rounds, roll .combat and then roll .{weapon} for damage.

Round 3:
  • The stench is unbearable, you each need to make a saving throw vs. Poison:
— Leng is not affected, although you’d think the stench would wake him up. — Hagar fails his saving throw, so is now at a -2 to attack and damage this round. — Chase makes his saving throw, and in fact feels better than he has in quite a while (rolled a nat 20). He maybe even enjoys the smell a little 😀 — Wirlt fails her saving throw badly, and is barely able to keep her lunch down. She will attack at -2 to hit and damage. — Weert also fails his saving throw and has a -2 to hit and damage, but he is out of weapons or attacks, so just hangs out at the top of the stairs trying not to throw up. — Krislee fails her saving throw and will also have the -2 to hit and damage, and is just not happy with the whole situation.
  • Hagar swings at the Troglodyte that knocked Leng unconscious, but the stink is so bad that he just plain misses.
  • Chase whacks the Troglodyte that hurt Leng upside the head with his sword, doling out 7 hp damage, and squishing its head enough that it no longer works. It’s dead! 🎈
  • Wirlt valiantly fights through the extreme nausea and stabs the northernmost Troglodyte through the heart for 3 hp damage, killing it! 🎈 You all breathe a sigh of relief (and gain 18 XP each), but then immediately regret it - these Troglodytes are just filthy stinky! You managed to search the room and the bodies, but find nothing of value. Next Step:
Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice.

So…. Leng is dead, he was when he hit -1/2 his Constitution score, so -5 was it. As you stand around discussing what to do next, the room starts to glow a green light, and you see 6 translucent green beings fade into view, surrounding you. They wear long flowing robes that appear to move in a breeze even though there is no air movement at all in this room. Three are bald men, and three are women with long flowing hair. Their bodies are slender, giving them the appearance of being much taller than they are, and they float 6 to 10 inches above the ground. They do not speak. One of the women floats forward a bit, drawing your eyes toward her. Startled as you are by their appearance, you become even more unsettled when you hear the voice of a woman in your minds. You somehow know that it is the woman who moved forward. “Your auras have the imprint of Lamdomon on them, with the exception of the dead one. This is an interesting puzzle, as he is more connected to our plane than any of the rest of you, yet he has not communed directly with Lamdomon. He is also more beatific, rather than saintly in his alignment.” “We are the Protectors, and some of our goals align with Lamdomon’s. There remains too much evil here in this palace, and we strive to return the balance of Lawful Good to the appropriate extent. While none of you are Lawful Good yourselves, we will not stand in your way as you continue to rid this place of the Chaotic and Evil within.”

“However, the balance of your assembly is incorrect as well. We will resurrect this spiritual man…” As she states these words, Leng wakes, fully healed, his stare entirely focused on the Protector. “…But you must correct your Chaotic ways and turn to Lawful Good in your alignment. This will require great spiritual searching on your part, to determine a new god to follow and worship. Beware — govern your actions carefully, for future chaotic actions will result in swift physical harm to you, and we will not heal you if you choose the way of Chaos.” She then turns to Krislee, and speaks to her via telepathy: “You appear to be wounded as well, but you clearly follow the ways of Chaos. I will make the same offer to you, Elf, that if you decide to move toward the Lawful and saintly, we can heal you while you are within these castle walls. We will not compel you to do so, the choice is yours. If you decide to take our offer, find us in our place of refuge at the top of the Guard Tower.” The Protectors fade away quickly, and the green glow fades from the room. You open the northern door, and see a short hallway that quickly turns west. Around the corner are two more flights of stairs, with daylight shining down toward you. You climb them and enter a watchtower room that is higher than the surrounding countryside, so that guards could look out on the surrounding land while standing watch. There are windows in the north, west and south walls. In the center of the room is an iron ladder leading to a trap door in the ceiling. By the south wall you see a statue that points at the wall between the windows. On the wall is scratched the words, “Travis keeps his treasure beyond the prisoners.” Looking out the windows at the surrounding countryside, you see nothing of note, beyond that it is almost noon. Looking at the Palace itself, you see windows on the rock face above you to the north. Out the south window, you see a castle wall above you with green vines and other plants growing over the edge. Just south past that wall another tower rises much higher. Given the height of the windows to the north and the overgrown wall to the south, you assume that you will need to climb the ladder to the floor above to be on the same level. You find nothing of interest, beyond that it appears the statue was brought to this room from somewhere else and positioned to point at the words scratched on the wall. Next Step: Describe how you will proceed and then roll .turn dice. (edited)

"Beyond the prisoners," Krislee reads aloud. "Where would that be? I guess we haven't found all of what Travis was hiding." Krislee looks at the wall with the message for a bit and then looks to the ladder, "That's our best bet if nothing else makes itself known, I think." She heads up the ladder.

You climb up the ladder to the trapdoor in the ceiling, open it, and climb into the upper floor of the watchtower. Like the floor below, there are 6 windows overlooking the surrounding lands. Several arrows are embedded into the trapdoor in the floor, and a broken bow and a sword lay beside it. There is a door in the east wall.

Looking out the northern windows, you can see 4 windows in worked stone walls on this level (see red arrows). Beyond the worked walls further to the north is the natural stone of the outcropping that the palace is sitting on.

Looking out the southern windows, further beyond the natural stone outcropping, you again see castle wall crenelation surrounding what looks like an overgrown garden (see green circle). Just beyond the garden is a large tower rising above the rest of the palace (see blue arrow). (edited)
