Amethist sees a large bedroom through the door, no creatures are in sight. Something seems odd about it, but it's such a quick glance through that Amethist can't put her finger on it. As an elf, Whisper does have better hearing than humans, but she is not able to track the moving creature as the sound disappears or stops. Blackjack experiences the same with his Hear Noise ability.

"Let's check this room," Amethist says quietly, as she opens the door the rest of the way and moves inside to hold the door open, waiting for the others to follow.

You all walk through the door, and close it behind you. This room appears to have once been a bedroom. It is filled with rotting, moldy bedroom furniture. The floor is suspiciously clean of dust and debris. A considerable amount of dust has built up between the furniture and the walls. The floor has obviously been brushed to remove any footprints. The ceiling is not rotted here, so it is not open to the rafters like it was in the hallway. Next Step The usual turn rolls, and decide how to proceed.

Whisper heads toward the chest in the corner. "Perhaps they're keeping our families' personal effects in here." She attempts to open the chest.

Amethist goes to the southern-most bed and starts to search it, muttering prayers and wondering if she can find anything there.

Hagar searches for any sign of hidden doors, loose stones, or anything else of note starting with the southernmost wall and moving counter-clockwise around the room.

Whisper opens the chest easily, it is empty. Likewise, Blackjack opens the other chest, which is also empty. Amethyst’s searching of the southern bed results in only damp and dirty hands, as the bedsheets are rotting away like the rest of the furniture in the room. Hagar finds nothing unusual with the walls, floor, the table and remaining bed. Next Step The usual turn rolls, and decide how to proceed. (edited)

Blackjack opens the door, turns left and makes it only 10 feet before a Giant Crab Spider drops out of the rafters onto him. Both Blackjack and Hagar heard it coming, so they are not surprised. You are not in your normal marching order, so Angar and Amethist will not be able to attack during the first combat round. Next Step Roll combat dice rolls, and give your directions for the types of attacks you want to attempt.

Angar and Amethist cannot attack because they are still inside the room, but will be out in the hallway and able to attack next round

Hagar’s mighty swing of his battle axe connects with the body of the beast, and black blood spews forth from a massive gash (for 8 hp damage). The spider shudders, but is still alive. (edited)

Whisper’s arrow just skims the top of the spider’s head (doing no damage), then thumps harmlessly into the wall beyond.

Whisper’s second arrow flies true, sinking into the heart of the beast, knocking it backwards and killing it (dealing 2 hp damage). It continues to twitch for a few seconds but then lies still. (edited)

Whisper spits on the spider's carcass. "Filthy creature!" She steps back and keeps an eye out for further danger, realizing they just made a lot of noise.

"Let's check this room across the way. Maybe something useful will be inside." Amethist walks toward the eastern door to peek inside the room.

The spider corpse is so mangled, it is hard to tell where any poison sacs may be. Blackjack takes his best guess and coats his short sword in some of the foul smelling goo. This makes it impossible to sheath without making a huge mess, so Blackjack is just carrying his sword and attempting to keep the goo from dripping on his clothes or anything else. Whisper pauses to listen for the sound of anything else approaching, worried about the noise the group made, but she hears nothing. Amethist heads to the east door, peeks through, then just opens it, and the group files into the room. There is barely enough room for you all to stand. The floor of this room has subsided and a large crack extends along the ceiling. Water drips through the crack, and a large mass of white mineral material extends in a ring around the crack. The water that has leaked through the ruined levels above pools in the depressed floor, forming a scummy pool many feet wide. A partially waterlogged mattress floats in the pool. A rusted iron statue of a beautiful warrior maiden stands in the middle of the pool. There are no ledges that can be used to bypass the pool. It appears that the only way to reach the door on the other side of the room is to navigate the pool.

Blackjack attempts to climb on the walls and climb across and above the water to the other side. “I’ll toss over a rope.”

Hagar starts wading into the pool with the intention to cross. “C'moan in th' juice is nae that cold.”

Angar looks at the statue and says: “I dunno…let me know how deep it is.”

Amethist looks around the room and pulls out the rope from her pack. She attempts to tie a loop in the rope and sling it over the top of the statue. "Let's see if this will work," she says, trying to tighten the rope around the stature to gain some leverage and swing over the top of the mucky water.

Whisper spots what may be mushrooms on the floating mattress. Blackjack starts climbing the west wall, makes it to the corner, but while climbing along the north wall, slips when a wall stone gives away and falls into the muddy bank and into the water with a big splash. Fortunately, the water is only about 3 feet deep, and it washes the smelly slime off of his sword. Unfortunately, Blackjack sprains his wrist, so will be at a -1 for attacks and damage rolls for the rest of the day. The waves he makes in the pool unfortunately also turn over the mattress and destroys the mushrooms that were on it, and splashes Hagar as well. Hagar made it about halfway across and hadn’t encountered any issues up until then. Amethist’s rope toss does succeed in looping around the head of the statue, but when she pulls slightly on the rope to tighten the noose, the statue tips over toward her. The statue’s head comes to rest on the muddy bank, but the body quickly disappears into the muddy, rusty 3 foot deep water. Little flecks of mud from the bank splatter onto Amethist. Angar is still dry and watches all of this unfold from near the door. Next Step First, describe your next actions, then second, roll .turn dice.

Bending to untie her rope and stow it back away, she says, "Well, that did not go as planned." Straightening back up, she looks at the water with disgust and starts to make her way across the room, holding her dress up as much as she can.

Blackjack, wet and muddy from head to toe, makes his way to the door. Once there, he checks the door for traps, and finds none. Whisper looks at the statue, which is partially face down in the mud. With what she can see, she notes that the sculptor was indeed skilled, to have captured the warrior maiden’s beauty in this work of art. However, given the layer of rust that covers the whole statue, it is hard to imagine that it would be worth any gold to anyone. Angar wades through the pool, which comes up to his neck. He joins Blackjack no worse for the wear than his now damp clothing. Likewise, Amethist joins the group at the door with some slightly damp, slightly mud splattered clothes. Hagar, still stands in the middle of the pool, beginning to shiver slightly. Despite his earlier statement to the group, the water is cold.

Hagar wades out of the pool to join Blackjack and Angar mumbling curses to himself and emoting angry facial expressions. Once at the door he asks “Nae better way ta get warm than ta murder the wee bastards that brought us here in tha furst place. Are ya gonna open the dur er what?”

With her sling in hand, Amethist takes her place at the rear of the party waiting her turn to see what's on the other side of the door.

While not the most elegant jump, Whisper is successful in reaching the other side of the pond without her feet sinking more than a couple inches into the soggy mattress. Blackjack is not successful in his attempt to hide. Angar cracks open the door far enough for both Hagar and him to see a hallway stretching west for 30 feet, ending in another door. From the amount of mud on the floor leading from the pool into the hallway, it is evident that others have passed this way before. The muddy footprints fade to nothing before reaching the next door though.
